Paper Hero 04:21
You see that girl, the one who's crying? Tell me now, is that my mother today? You see that man, the one who saved her? And I'll watch him do it again and again and again. And if he wasn't there, what the hell would I do? Would be alright if I came running back to you? Hey - where is my hero? I want to try but I'm just too afraid. Hey - where is my hero? Another one with the world to save. Millions captive, one man the trigger. Tell me now, is that my mother in there? That same man, he's back to save her. And I'll watch him do it over and over and over again. And if he wasn't there, what the hell would I do? Would be alright if I came running back to you? Hey - where is my hero? I want to try but I'm just too afraid. Hey - where is my hero? Another one with the world to save.

Every breath that I take I am farther away But I’ll sit here and wait For you to say something Every life that I take For a life that I’d save To remember your way To remember your face How many times must I wake Screaming for you How many times must I wake Unable to save you I remember a time When you would have died For what we’d achieve For what we believed in And you’d sacrifice Our love’s just a price to pay My convictions were righteous but I’m not sure I could say the same How many times must I wake Screaming for you How many times must I wake Unable to save you How many times must I wake Screaming for you How many lives must I take Just to repay you

This empty hallway reminds me of wedding bells. Long walk to daylight as cliche as hell. The smell of rusty cages. The man who stands outside talking 'bout his master who'd bring us in alive Hold on Lover, but I don't make you stay Even though I touch you, feel your breath on mine, this rusted cage contains you. Do you even mind The piss and mud behind you? The life of "On Your Knees!?" Cater to their lashing and lies that have taken seed. Hold on Lover, but I don't make you stay Please take cover if you'll only look away You answer how we've come here with borrowed thoughts in mind but Consider my solution. Will you look outside? Even right before you the daylight blinds your eyes but take my hand I'll guide you, expose to you the lies. Hold on Lover, but I don't make you stay Please take cover if you'll only look away Instrumental Break Hold on Lover, but I don't make you stay Please take cover if you'll only look away If bars were meant to to hold me, would their embrace be warm? If words were meant to scold me, wouldn't I be warned? The Shackles only hate me, their temporary shell. Yet you would choose their safety to an unfamiliar hell.

Before we begin you should know You are all welcome in the darkest of shows Join the players, performers, the stars. As we flirt with all things bizarre Lets begin with what you can see A horrible you. A horrible me. The audience smiles with cynical glee To the ugliest sights – the falling trapeze Flipping. Flying. The air is drying me. If I can’t reach you I’m falling down… In the darkest corner of our little circus We can find you a seat if you’d like to join us If someone smiles you’ll get out alive - Even if it takes a while In the darkest corner of our little circus The music is telling you all that’s in store You answer it’s calling and sing out before You could shout out in an awful dismay At the clowns who would dare entertain So the mirrors are up but the masks are in place Yet the lions are handsome so don’t look away Though the clowns become monsters, they’re thought to be brave Or they’re fools of our little soiree Is it clear? A familiar mask they wear? Frightening grin to whom you refuse to give in… In the darkest corner of our little circus We can find you a seat if you’d like to join us If someone smiles you’ll get out alive - Even if it takes a while In the darkest corner of our little circus As we come to the end of our torrid affair Do you have a suggestion you’d like to share I can tell that you won’t ‘cause you’re barely aware That a circus like ours is beyond compare So suspend your belief and smile for the light Stare into the mirror. Stare into its fright See the reflection you’ve chosen to know And thank you for coming to our terrible show Is it clear? A familiar mask they wear? Frightening grin to whom you refuse to give in… In the darkest corner of our little circus We can find you a seat if you’d like to join us If someone smiles you’ll get out alive - Even if it takes a while In the darkest corner of our little circus

about

Despite the Blindness Edmonton, Alberta

Self-described as “…progressive…” & “…a mix of beauty and aggression…” Despite the Blindness is no doubt ambitious in what they seek. At times heavy and others soft and subtle, the band insists the music exists only to enhance the lyrics, which are filled with imagery that can be both heart wrenching and horrifying. ... more
